Day 98

Josh and I went over last night for 2 hours.  I managed to paint one wall in Oliver's room before I ran out of paint.  His closet still needs painted so I really hope one more gallon will finish the job.  Then I sanded the wainscoting in the bathroom.  One section still needs painted after I put it up last weekend, but it's so smooth now.  I'm glad I decided to do it.  Then I started painting the kitchen cabinets.  Josh suggested that I start painting the backs first, so I get the hang of it.  I got 7 done before I decided to call it quits for the night.

Josh has been working on the kitchen floor.  He is gluing and screwing down the cement boards.  He is going over again today, so I'm sure this is what he will be working on, if not sanding down the walls a little more in the kitchen.

When we got back home, we saw something running through the front yard as we were coming down the driveway.  Josh said, "Is that a deer?"  I thought it looked more like a dog.  So we thought Reaver might have gotten out.  We stopped the car and called for him to come get in the car.  "Reaver, come on!  Want to go Bu-bye!?"  WOOF!  "That's not Reaver!"  So we got back in the car but couldn't see him since it was dark out.  Josh ended up driving through the front yard "chasing" this lost dog.  It was clearly scared but had a collar on.  He ran off the property.  It was a pretty funny story to explain when my dad was asking us why we were driving through the front yard, hahaha.

Day 94

Wish I had more to update.  No major changes lately.  Last weekend I put up a piece of wainscoting and worked on Oliver's bedroom walls.  Needs another coat of paint, so I'll probably have to buy another gallon of gray.  The rest of Friday was spent burning stuff.   Saturday, Josh worked on getting the lawn mower working and mowed some.  Then burned more wood.  Sunday we were all busy with a softball benefit for my cousin.  On Monday, my cousin J.D., came over to help Josh lay concrete board on the kitchen floor.  They didn't finish, ran out of time and screws.  They are going to work on it again Friday.

Saturday, Josh has to go to Dayton for Muster Duty since he's inactive ready reserve.  So nothing will get done then.  I can't wait until Josh is done with classes on May 10.  It's been difficult to get anything done these last few months with how busy he is.  Sometimes he has to choose between seeing the kids or working on the house.  Once classes are over, he will just work until 3:30 everyday and be able to get a lot more done on the house.

Day 84

Not much work gets done during the week.  I think that's why I've been posting so little lately.  I was able to go over on Friday, Saturday and today to work.

My backsplash arrived!  It is still sitting in the garage and I haven't opened any to see if it's correct or broken.

Josh did the grout in the bathroom and I think it looks great.  It's not cleaned up yet.

Josh's sister, Cheyanne, came over and has been painting all the trim white.

So many cabinets in the living room!  I started to sand the drawers so we can paint them white.

My dad and Josh buttoned up the wall in the dining room.

All of the doors that I hand sanded.  I think there were about 23 or so.  I went over last night for a few hours with just the radio to keep me company.  Josh had been digging ditches all day, so he was taking a break.

He dug out a ditch by the road and around the house here.  The spout just went straight down, so hopefully this will lead the water away from our basement.

Here, he is explaining that the water will collect and disperse in this large bucket with holes, away from the foundation.

Before we start painting cabinets, we laid out them out in the kitchen to make sure they would fit in case we needed to return any of them.  In this picture the gap is where the range will go.

The sink is under the window and we aren't able to put the dishwasher right next to it based on the set up, but I think it will be ok, since it's still close.  We did figure out that we need to exchange a 30 inch cabinet, for a 24 inch. We have an extra upper cabinet, but I think we are going to put that in the laundry room.

And today I was outside cutting down shrubs and maybe some rose bushes.  I like things to look clean and I told Josh I want an "open concept" yard.  Haha.  Once I cut them down in front of the house, I cut down about six more in the side yard.  There are also two more large ones that I was working on and had to use a hand saw.  That's making our fire pit pretty big, so I think Josh is going to burn that tonight.  I think I will do a video soon, showing our property, since I did one of the inside before.

I mentioned before that there was a really uneven spot on Oliver's wall, so Josh said he would putty that up and hopefully it will be fixed so I can do a second coat.  I decided to sand the wainscoting in the bathroom even though it already has two coats of white on it.  It's just too rough for me.  I haven't done that yet, but I'm sure I will next time I go over.  And I think we are getting close to painting the kitchen.  Fingers crossed!

Day 78

I know it's been a while since I updated, so I'm going to try to remember everything.

Josh has mostly been working on the ceiling in the kitchen.  There was a lot of cutting and patching.  I don't know if you can tell from any of the before pictures of the kitchen, but there was a big square part and hung down.  It's hard to explain.  But we took that down to make the ceiling all even.  He decided it would be cheaper to try to repair it rather than buying and hanging a bunch of drywall.  It's not done, but looking better.  And we are going to paint the kitchen walls white instead of leaving them bare.  Like I said before, only the top 1/4 of the walls will be painted light blue.

And I ordered our backslash!  I was checking my email and I had one from Glass Tile Oasis.  Basically it was like, you ordered samples from us a while ago and if you order something from our site in the next two days, we will give you 10% off.  So I'm like measure the kitchen!  And then I ordered 11 boxes.  It was the first thing that we charged.  I'm pretty happy about that. It's called "soft mint" but I think it looks more blue.  I hope it will look blue in the kitchen. For a limited time, you can save 5% on online orders with the promo code: OASIS.

Josh's sister, Shala, came over on the weekend and she took all the doors off the cabinets so we can start painting them.  We haven't started that yet.  She was also sanding trim.  I went over there one evening, right after Josh had left so I started sanding more trim.  I wasn't sure exactly how much needed sanded so I spend a lot of time on each one.  When Josh came back, after an hour, the first thing he said was, "Ohhhh, you didn't need to sand it down to the wood.  It just needs to be smooth."  So the rest of the trim, I spent about 5 minutes on, instead of 20.

The bathroom tile has been grouted and needs mopped about a hundred times before it looks done.  Josh also bought a mirror for the bathroom.  It was originally $120 and on sale for $30, so he couldn't pass it up.

The future plans are still working on getting the kitchen finished.  I feel like it will go quickly once the walls and ceiling is finished.  I hope so at least.

Before pictures

It occurred to me that I posted before pictures of the bathrooms, but I don't think I did for the rest of the house.  You could kind of see it with the video I did a few months ago. So I'm just going to post all the before pictures right now, because I'm sure everything has changed.
